Movie Power: Idris Elba's "No Good Deed" Sets Box Office Record

'It's the first brand-new post summer
release to really catch on,' said Paul
Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for
box-office tracker Rentrak.

"No Good Deed" starring Idris Elba » took the
lead at the weekend box office as the crime thriller
finished at the top spot with $24.5 million,
according to studio estimates on Sunday.
The 42-year-old British actor portrays a charming
escaped convict who terrorises a stay-at-home
mom played by 44-year-old Taraji P. Henson.
The Sony drama was produced by Will Packer -
also produced 'Obsessed' starring Alba, Beyonce
and Ali Larter - but Elba also served as an
executive producer and had an estimated budget
of $13 million.
Senior media analyst for box-office tracker
Rentrak, Paul Dergarabedian told MailOnline,
"It's the first brand-new post summer release to
really catch on." Adding that, "It almost doubled
its reported budget in its opening weekend with
these box-office returns."

now: (Estimated ticket sales for Friday through
Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according
to Rentrak.)
