What to watch on Monday, August 4...
SEASON 2 PREMIERE, 12 am Pacific, Hulu
The Awesomes
Amy Poehler, Will Forte, Maya Rudolph,
and Kate McKinnon are among the guest voices
joining Seth Meyers' ragtag band of superheroes
this season. Can it be long before the show adds
Lorne Michaels as a wise bald man in a
wheelchair?
SERIES PREMIERE, 8pm, ABC
Bachelor in Paradise
Erstwhile Bachelor and Bachelorette contestants
are shipped off to a remote location. Hey, sounds
like a good idea to me! Wait, it's for a for a TV
show? Aw, nertz. Anyway, I guess these onetime
runners-up get a second chance to pair off against
the backdrop of sunny Tulum, Mexico.
8pm, ABC Family
Switched at Birth
Daphne spearheads a senior ditch day at Carlton,
which quickly devolves into mass anarchy and
human-vs.-ape warfare and all other manner of
trouble. Elsewhere in "You Will Not Escape," Bay
investigates Angelo's family medical history, and
Regina accompanies Kathryn to her author party
in New York.
8pm, FX
MasterChef
For the first time ever, the remaining 11 chefs will
choose between two mystery boxes, one
containing high-end ingredients and the other
offering more run-of-the-mill fare. Once they
plate their feasts, guest-judges Monty Hall and
Erwin Schrödinger will help taste.
8pm, FX
Whose Line Is It Anyway?
Jeff Davis is the guest comic, though at press
time the episode does not appear to feature a
guest-star to stand around awkwardly while he
and Wayne Brady make up a doo-wop song.
DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE, 9pm, HBO
Nixon by Nixon: In His Own Words
Declassified audiotapes, secretly recorded in the
White House between 1971 and 1973, reveal the
former president's thoughts on topics such as
Vietnam, people of color, and the cancellation of
The Lawrence Welk Show, about which he was
apparently super pissed.
SERIES PREMIERE, 9pm, FX
Partners
Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence star
as a pair of mismatched lawyers who team up
after receiving court-ordered sanction to do so.
"They Come Together" introduces Grammer's
shifty corporate castoff to Lawrence's ethical,
populist crusader. Then in "Let's Have a Simple
Gwedding," the duo go undercover as a same-sex
couple to foil an unscrupulous wedding planner.
9pm, ABC Family
The Fosters
Callie returns to Girls United as a volunteer,
where she learns of disquieting developments at
her former digs. Meanwhile in "Girls Reunited,"
Mariana and Hayley whip up dinner for their
double date with Mat and Jesus, and Stef is
unsettled by a missive from Ana.
9pm, TNT
Major Crimes
A shady tech entrepreneur is bumped off in
"Sweet Revenge," and the squad may need look no
further than the episode title to determine the
motive. Off the beat, Rusty feels left out in the
cold when Raydor's son visits.
SEASON 3 FINALE, 10pm, A&E
Longmire
Walt hopes to close the book on his wife's murder
once and for all in "Ashes to Ashes." In other
developments, Branch gets suspended.
Presumably that means "from duty" and not, say,
"over a vat of highly stain-inflicting grape juice,"
but the logline doesn't specify, so I suppose
anything's possible.
10pm, PBS
POV
"15 to Life: Kenneth's Story," profiles a young man
who's serving four life sentences for his role in a
string of robberies as a teenager. The film also
interrogates the tendency of the American
criminal justice system to incarcerate young
adults for lengthy prison terms, including for life.
10pm, CBS
Under the Dome
"In the Dark" finds Barbie and Sam trapped by a
cave-in while exploring a mysterious tunnel.
Above ground, a dust storm roars through
Chester's Mill. And above that, the Dome just
shakes its head and wonders if it should've chosen
to menace a town that might've offered even a
little bit of a challenge.
10pm, ABC
Mistresses
April faces the twin threats of a ghost from her
past and an apparent stalker from her present.
Elsewhere in "Coming Clean," Savi reconnects
with her estranged dad ( John Heard), Toni
drops a bombshell on Dom, and Karen tries to
coax the truth out of Anna.
10pm, MTV
Teen Wolf
The school is afflicted by a strange disease in
"Weaponized." Hopefully this doesn't jeopardize
the theater department's upcoming production of
Healthy, Non-Boil-Ravaged Young People. It's
supposed to be a real corker.
10pm, ABC
Chelsea Lately
With the late-night talker ending its run on
August 26, E! launches a month-long sendoff to
