What to Watch Tonight: A Double Dose of Defiance and the Season Finales of Rectify and Rookie Blue

What to watch on Thursday, August 21...
8pm, Bravo
Inside the Actors Studio
A special rebroadcast of Robin Williams'
appearance on the show from June 10, 2001,
commemorating the life of the late actor and
comedian.
8pm & 9pm, Syfy
Defiance
In "Bottom of the World," Nolan and Rafe
scramble to rescue Amanda and Pottinger from a
collapsed mine. I'm assuming they're at least 50
percent successful, because Amanda's back in
action in "Doll Parts," pressed into deputy service
just as a devastating murder wallops the town.
SEASON 5 FINALE, 9pm, ABC
Rookie Blue
"Fragments" and "Everlasting" pit 15 Division
against a deadly car bomber. Smack dab in the
middle of the danger, Andy and Sam also must
contend with the fact that Duncan is back in the
field.
9pm, Discovery
MythBusters
Jamie and Adam test the most efficient methods
for boarding an airplane, including the always
unpopular "get stuck behind that one shmuck
whose suitcase is the size of Wisconsin"
stratagem. Then Kari, Grant, and Tory try to make
a bullet out of a human tooth, which, if possible,
will prove quite the handy skill in our coming
post-apocalyptic hellscape.
SEASON 2 FINALE, 9pm, Sundance
Rectify
Amantha fesses up to Jon Stern even as Daniel
struggles to heed the man's advice in "Unhinged."
In other affairs, Tawney reconsiders her options,
Ted Jr. looks for assistance, and the town must
beat back the relentless assault of a wave of Nazi
zombies. Spoiler alert: I made up one of those B
stories, but I'll let you guess which.
9pm & 9:30pm, NBC
Welcome to Sweden
"Parents!/Föräldrar" finds Wayne and Nancy
dropping in—and immediately butting heads with
Emma's folks. Meanwhile, Bruce is determined to
prove that moving to Sweden was the right call.
For one thing, he probably wouldn't have gotten
his own NBC sitcom otherwise. But his resolve
will be tested in "Homesick/Lagom," which fills
the void left by the freshly canceled Working
the Engels and sees Bruce's sister Amy begging
him to return to New York to help her with her
financial problems—and dispatching Aubrey
Plaza to Sweden to convince him.
10pm, IFC
Garfunkel and Oates
While on a double date in "Speechless," Riki and
Kate test a theory that men favor laconic ladies.
This of course runs directly contrary to my own
theory that the ideal woman is Lorelai Gilmore.
10pm, Sundance
The Honorable Woman
"The Ribbon Cutter" flashes back to Nessa and
Atika's traumatic time in captivity in Gaza, and to
Hayden-Hoyle's efforts to climb the ladder at
MI6.
10pm, FX
Married
Russ refuses to have his semen tested in
"Invisible Man." If this episode is meant to be a
remake of the Claude Rains film, it is clearly
taking a heck of a lot of liberties with the source
material.
10:30pm, FX
You're the Worst
Jimmy falls into bed with a celebrity in "PTSD,"
triggering a string of sexual reprisals and counter-
reprisals between him and Gretchen.
LATE-NITE:
– A retrospective of bloopers from the show's
rehearsals on Conan, 11pm, TBS
– Jennifer Lopez on Chelsea Lately, 11pm, E!
– Josh Brolin, Artie Lange, and Giada De
Laurentiis on The Tonight Show Starring
Jimmy Fallon, 11:35pm, NBC
– Serena Williams, Chadwick Boseman, and Echo
and the Bunnymen on Late Show with David
Letterman, 11:35pm, CBS
