Amy Winehouse statue to be unveiled in Camden on her birthday

Back To Black singer's family will reveal special tribute on the day she would have turned 31

A life-size statue of Amy Winehouse is set to be unveiled on what would have been her 31st birthday.

The long-awaited bronze memorial will take pride of place in the heart of Camden, London - the place she called home.

Amy's statue was originally going to be placed in the Roundhouse music venue on September 14, but it will now be in the famous Stables Market.

The singer's dad Mitch Winehouse said: "Amy was in love with Camden and it is the place her fans from all over the world associate her with.

"The family have always been keen to have a memorial for her in the place she loved the most, which will provide fans a place to visit and attract people to the area."

The memorial will show the tattooed singer standing with one hand on her hip and hair in her signature beehive up do.

He continued: "The Roundhouse would have been great as Amy and the Foundation have a great affinity with the venue, but it would not always have been accessible for fans, we wanted people to be able to see it, touch and interact.

"Now Amy will oversee the comings and goings of her home town forever."

Amy was found dead aged 27 in her North London home after battling with a drink and drug addiction.

Her family set up the Amy Winehouse Foundation shortly after her death in 2011 to help young people prevent the effects of drug and alcohol misuse.
