Miley Cyrus' homeless VMA guest wanted by police after violating probation

The Wrecking Ball singer defends Jesse Helt after his troubled past makes headlines

MILEY Cyrus has been forced to defend homeless Jesse Helt after it's emerged he's wanted by the police.

The Wrecking Ball singer chose the 22-year-old to accept her VMA 2014 award at the weekend as a method of raising awareness of the issue in America.

On stage, he bravely said: "Thank y'all, my name is Jesse and I am accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth in the US who are starving, lost and scared for their lives right now.

"I know this because I am one of these people."

But now reports have claimed the good deed has turned bad as police have a warrant out for his arrest.

Court records show he was arrested on charges of criminal mischief and criminal trespass in 2010.

An arrest warrant was issued in Oregon in November 2011 after he violated his probation.

Defending her new found friend, Miley posted on Twitter: "People who are homeless have lived very hard lives. Jesse included.

"I hope that this can be the start of a national conversation about youth homelessness and how to end it.

"Does looking down upon the homeless help people excuse their inaction?"
